Osceola Arts Advanced Orchestra trip to Kenya, Africa

Osceola Arts originally called the Footlight Theatre Guild, first debuted in Osceola County in 1961.  The Guild offered their first productions in the auditorium of Osceola High School. After one such production, Mrs. Margaret Bast sparked action by offering the Guild $1,000 "to find a home of your own without mosquito's and with comfortable seats."  Here the dream of a Center that offers live theater, music, art, and other creative activities was born.

Osceola Arts is excited to return to Kenya, Africa in June 2023 with our Advanced Youth Orchestra students. This incredible experience gives our students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture, share their love of music and enjoy a few safaris along the way.

During this 10-day adventure, students will connect with international peers in a professional concert setting in Nairobi. Students will then travel across the country and visit three underserved schools to perform a concert and host an “instrument petting zoo” giving local students the opportunity to experience music and learn about the different orchestral instruments.

In addition to sharing their knowledge of music, our students will have the opportunity to learn about Kenya and all it has to offer. They will enjoy excursions to local museums, the Sheldrake Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Center and traditional safari tours within the stunning national parks of Kenya.

This is a trip of a lifetime that has such a positive effect on both our orchestral students and the many children we visit in Kenya.
