About the Event
Art i n Public Places at West Osceola Library presents Mixed Media Artist Grey Sturgill. Originally from Brooklyn NYC Grey didn’t focus on Art until high school.
Becoming an Art Major at Prospect Heights HS during her junior year and a summer of study at a community-based art collective started her on the path of exploring different mediums of creating art. Over the years Grey has explored and very much enjoyed the areas of etching/print making, copper relief, yarn fiber crafts and painting. She has completed studies in Architectural Drafting, Graphics/Printing with a concentration on knitting & crochet and has a sizeable
collection of her original designs of winterwear for adults and babies.
Her most memorable experiences have been as an Art Teacher/Activity Director with at-risk children and the frail older adults. She noticed they did “the best with the least” being the most creative, imaginative, and innovative utilizing whatever materials available. Working with children’s artists, elderly artists was
inspirational and rewarding. Grey states this as exceptional teaching/learning period for her.
“Dream Doodles Cosmology”
"Doodles are [my] freehand, free thoughts any direction drawings with no specific patterns, designs, or desired outcome. Whatever line lineation however the pen wanders which produces the finished composition. Dream doodles allow for any interpretation(s) as perceived by the observer. Some compositions demonstrate elements of cosmic, geometric, and architectural forms. While others vibrate to aerials views simulating cityscapes, skyscrapers, and the night lights of a high-tech metropolitan city. Dream doodling invigorates easy thinking, from simplistic to intricate detailed illustrations. Dream doodling is another method to feed and free the imagination." Grey Sturgill
