About the Event

Osceola Arts is excited to bring Oliver back to the main stage this season! Directed by Elijah Gragg Assistant Director: Gabriel Bermudez

Music Director: Safin Karim Choreographer: Kit Riffel Seeking Non-Union actors. All roles paid. Seeking Actors & Singers who can move. All Actors are welcomed and urged to audition. We commit to practicing diverse and inclusive casting without regard to disability, race, age, color, National origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Actors should come prepared with no more than 32 bars of a classic Broadway song that is not from the show. Bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Actors will also be taught a short movement piece. Ages: 16 and up Auditions will be held in person at Osceola Arts on Monday, October 10th & Tuesday, October 11th. Audition appointments are available per hour.

Actors may be asked to attend callbacks after their audition. Callbacks will be held at Osceola Arts on Wednesday, October 12th.  You will receive an email confirmation and additional audition details by Friday, October 7th! Tech Week: Sunday, November 27th – Thursday, December 1st Performances: Friday, December 2nd – Sunday, December 18th Description:

Orphan Oliver ventures to the Victorian streets of London and joins Fagin and his group of petty pickpockets. After being taken in by Mr. Brownlow, Oliver must dodge Fagin’s henchmen who threaten his chances at finding love and acceptance in this musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic.

Character Breakdown:

Oliver Twist- An orphaned workhouse boy. Bright, innocent, clever, and winning. He has a heroic air about him. Extremely loveable and kind-hearted. Must have an unchanged voice. RP British accent.

Age: 8 to 13

Vocal Part: Soprano (Unchanged Male)

Fagin- A Devious leader of a children’s band of thieves. Runs a training academy for young pickpockets. Cockney accent. A conniving, sly, con-man, yet very personable. He has made a career out of training criminals, obsessed with money. Must have excellent comedic timing and a strong baritone voice. *May be a part of Ensemble in “Food, Gorious, Food”.*

Age: 30-50

Vocal Part: Baritone

The Artful Dodger- To play 14-17, Cockney accent. Very energetic, highly personable, intelligent and savvy beyond his years. Fagin’s right hand “man”. He is full of life and seems to always be bursting with new ideas and a sense of adventure. A dynamic singer/dancer with youthful energy.

Age: 15 to 25

Vocal Part: Tenor

Bill Sikes- Worked for Fagin as a youth now a feared master criminal. A brutal, harsh, brutish, abusive man that always puts himself first. Cockney accent. Physically imposing and in his prime. Good looking in a rough, weathered sort of way. *May be a part of the ensemble in beginning of Act 1*

Age: 30 to 45

Vocal Part: Bass/Bari

Nancy- When she was younger worked for Fagin. Bill Sikes’ lover. She is devoted to him in spite of their abusive relationship. Takes a liking to Oliver and becomes somewhat of a guardian. Cockney accent. She possesses a drive for life even amongst the darkest circumstances. Pretty, intelligent, longs for a better life. Must have a strong belt to a D. *May be a part of ensemble in beginning of Act 1*

Age: 20 to 25

Voice Part: Mezzo/Alto

Bet/ Charlotte- Bet: Nancy’s closest friend who used to work for Fagin but is now a prostitute. High spirited, energetic, down to earth. Cockney accent. Charlotte: The Sowerberry’s daughter. A flirtatious, promiscuous young girl who is attracted to Noah Claypole. Has no sympathy for Oliver, very self consumed. Cockney accent.

Age: 16-23

Vocal: Alto

Mr. Bumble- Master of the Workhouse. Cockney accent. A large, pompous and corrupt bureaucrat. *Will also be a part of the ensemble*

Age: 35 to 60

Voice Part: Tenor/Bari

Widow Corney- Mistress of the Workhouse, Cockney accent. Sharp tongued widow. Brazen and corrupt.*Will also be a part of the ensemble*

Age: 40 to 60

Voice Part: Soprano

Mr. Brownlow- RP British accent. Oliver’s grandfather. An upper-middle class gentleman. A kind man of wealth and good-breeding. *Will also be a part of the ensemble*

Age: 45 to 65

Mr. Sowerberry/ Dr. Grimwig - Mr. Sowerberry: The undertaker. He begrudgingly takes Oliver from Mr. Bumble to work in the funeral home as a coffin follower. He is cold and very insensitive. Cockney accent. Dr Grimwig: A doctor. RP British accent. Upper class, friend of Mr. Brownlow.

Age: 30-50

Vocal Part: Baritone

Mrs. Sowerberry/Mrs. Bedwin - Mrs. Sowerberry: The undertaker’s wife. More business savvy than her husband. Cockney accent. Mrs. Bedwin: A housekeeper. RP British accent. Works for Mr. Brownlow. Warm personality.

Age: 30-50

Vocal Part: Soprano

Noah Claypole/Charley Bates- Mr. Sowerberry's pimply apprentice. Charley Bates:  A boy in Fagin's establishment. Spoken- Will sing with ensemble.

Age: 16 to 25

Old Sally- Oliver’s nurse at birth. She is kind hearted and has a sense of responsibility for Oliver. *Will also be a part of the ensemble*

Age: 40-70

Nipper- The smallest child in Fagin’s gang. Cockney accent. Solo in “Consider Yourself”

Age: 8-10

Ensemble

Workhouse boys, workhouse Governors, street vendors, crowd, Fagin’s Gang, etc.
