About the Event

Osceola Arts is excited to open our 2022-23 season with Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein!

Seeking Non-Union actors. All roles paid. Seeking Actors & Singers who can move. All Actors are welcomed and urged audition. We commit to practicing diverse and inclusive casting without regard to disability, race, age, color, National origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity. 

Auditions will be through video submissions only. The deadline to submit a video audition is Friday, July 22nd at 12 noon. 

Actors should prepare 32 bars (or 1 minute) of a contemporary character song in the style of the show. Songs from the show are strongly discouraged. Submission of a dance reel is optional but encouraged if you have one prepared. 

Actors may be asked to attend callbacks after their audition. Callbacks will be held in person at Osceola Arts on Sunday, July 24th, and Monday, July 25th at 6p. Callbacks will include singing, jazz dance and tap dance. 

Rehearsals: July 31st - September 10th

Tech Week: Sunday, September 11th – Thursday, September 15th

Performances: Fri, September 16th - Sun, October 2nd. 7:30pm & 2:00pm shows (10 performances)

Description: 

Frederick Frankenstein hopes to carry on his grandfather’s legacy of bringing a corpse back to life in this popular horror parody musical. With the help of his servant Igor and assistant Inga, Dr. Frankenstein must decide if he will stay in Transylvania or flee the town that detests the Frankenstein name. Rated PG-13

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein – (Male Presenting) Brilliant brain surgeon and grandson of mad scientist Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein. Vocal range: Baritenor (Bb one octave below middle C to G above middle C). Strong movement and tap experience a plus.



The Monster –The misunderstood creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Seeking performers 6’ tall and above. Vocal range: Ab one octave below middle C to F above middle C. 



Igor – Frederick’s faithful, bright-eyed, eager servant and friend–with a hunchback. Vocal range: Comedic Baritenor (D below middle C to F above middle C). Seeking performers with impeccable comedic timing and physical comedy chops. Legit singing in addition to character singing a plus. English dialect preferred.



Inga – (Female Presenting) Frederick’s curious, bubbly, and sexually suggestive assistant. A resident of Transylvania. Vocal range: Soprano (G# below middle C to A above the treble staff). Strong movement, tap dancing, and yodeling a plus. Swedish dialect preferred.



Elizabeth Benning – (Female Presenting) Self-loving, “madcap”, boisterous fiancé of Frederick. Vocal range: Soprano Belter (F# below middle C to F#, top line of the treble staff).



Frau Blücher – (Female Presenting) Intense, stern housekeeper of Frankenstein estate. Former lover of Victor Frankenstein. Vocal range: Dramatic Contralto (G natural below middle C to B, third line treble staff). German dialect preferred.

Inspector Hans Kemp – (Male Presenting) Head of the police in Transylvania, with a wooden arm and leg. Justice-driven. Vocal Range: A one octave below middle C to F above middle C. Strong physical comedy a plus. (Will double in ensemble roles).

Blind Hermit – Lonely, poor, blind town hermit longing for a friend. Vocal range: Bb one octave below middle C to Db just above middle C. (Will double with ensemble roles). 

We are also seeking a small but incredibly mighty ensemble to portray a variety of additional roles in the show. Tons of stage time. True triple threats. Strong movement, tap dancing, and ability to portray multiple characters a plus. Please note, we are devoted to diverse casting both in ethnicity and gender expression.
